GhostBSD is a simple, elegant, and friendly #BSD operating system for desktops and laptops based on #FreeBSD. #GhostBSD is a slow-rolling release, while some GNU/Linux distros are on the bleeding edge side; we tried to offer a stable update and release cycle. The official desktop environment is #MATE. The system comes with a graphical application to install software and update your system. Most codecs to play multimedia files are pre-installed. The installer leverages #OpenZFS, makes it easy to install GhostBSD on ZFS with other OS on the same drive, and is suitable for newcomers to FreeBSD. With modest hardware requirements, GhostBSD is ideal for modern workstations and 64-bit single-board computer hardware.

@ST20 I do not know this, but it is a good idea for beginners to start with something like this for FreeBSD. GhostBSD seems to be stable and with MATE, Linux users are more welcome. I am using Devuan/Void Linux on Desktops, but for storages and servers freebsd is fantastic.

I liked OpenBSD more than FreeBSD when I tested it in a virtual machine, just not good for beginners. Just my experience it's limited at fews hours.

If in the future the Linux kernel will made a bad move, probably I will move to BSD.

I downloaded VoidLinux 1 month ago, just I not tested it for now, I have time in the next 2 weeks.

Void is also a really good OS for raspberryPi (with Incus/lxd).

For the Ghost BSD for the "slow-rolling release" the team take the time test the news packets?

I had a bad experience with Arch Linux I abandoned after 3 years. To much times the system crash after a update with a same day new version of a packet... This arrive when I'm busy and don't have the time...

(sorry if my English is not perfect, my language it's the French)

@ST20 GhostBSD is based on "stable", so you should be fine.

@ST20 Youre welcome. My tip is more: just find a friend/person, who knows a little bit more about installation the OS and do this togehter. In this case you would not miss all the nice features of btrfs or zfs with snapshots etc. Maybe there is a LUG (linux user group) or something like this in your area!?
